Role Play

Role Play is the third of Alan Ayckbourn's Damsels in Distress trilogy. It has a standalone logic of its own and combines the writer's gift for good comic timing with his wicked observation of relationships and class distinction.

Justin and Julie-Ann both work in computers and are hopelessly mismatched in love. They are about to introduce their respective parents to each other over dinner. Justin’s upper crust alcoholic mother from Surrey and Julie Ann’s bigoted Yorkshire father and prim mother are all en route. Into this doomed scenario drops, literally, via the upstairs balcony Paige Petite, one time lap dancer and her thick gun toting minder who is employed by her violent boyfriend.
