In Act 1 Detective Inspector Bruton questions actress Celia Wallis about the murder of her husband Martin.  Celia is quite obviously in the clear but Neville Smallwood, the drunken journalist sleeping in her bed, is an extremely shady character who argued with Martin not long before the murder, and the solution to the initial puzzle seems simple.

Act 2 takes place before the murder, and all expectations, of the characters as well as the plot, are turned on their heads.  No-one, not even the figure silhouetted eerily against the front door, is at all what he or she seems and the dénouement to this witty and original play surprises the audience right up to the final twist.
